Peer-to-peer

Peer-to-peer file sharing without installing software

P2P means the file payload moves between peers. In XtremeShare, those peers are browsers connected with WebRTC — useful when you want a handoff instead of another cloud folder.

What “P2P” means here

After signaling, browsers open a data channel and exchange encrypted chunks. That is different from uploading a copy to a storage bucket for someone to download later.

XtremeShare still runs servers for room metadata and WebRTC signaling. Those servers help the connection form; they are not a lasting file library for your content on the live path.

When P2P fits

Choose peer-to-peer when both sides can be online around the same time, you want to avoid leaving a long-lived cloud copy, and a temporary share link is enough.

  • Cross-device sends (phone ↔ laptop) in modern browsers
  • Large packages that feel awkward as email attachments
  • Private handoffs where you control when the sender stays online

When cloud storage still wins

If the recipient will download days later while you are offline, if you need version history, or if many people need ongoing access, a drive product is usually better.

How to use XtremeShare for P2P

Open the homepage, drop files, optionally set a password, share the link, and keep your tab open. Ask the recipient to open the link and start the receive. If the network drops, use resume rather than restarting from zero.

FAQ

Is signaling the same as storing my files?
No. Signaling exchanges connection messages. File bytes go on the data channel between browsers.
What about TURN?
Optional TURN can help with difficult NATs by relaying WebRTC traffic. That is still not the same as uploading into an XtremeShare file archive.
